Use Standard Sizes – Rectangular Not Square!
I found out the hard way that the post office charges a different rate based on the shape of an envelope. When I went to the post office to mail my (square) invitations for my wedding, I was in for a shock. I mistakenly assumed since my invites weighed less than 1oz I would be able to use standard first class stamps. After talking with the postmaster I discovered the post office considers square envelopes “non-standard” and they charge extra for them!

Money saving tip: If you love both a square and a rectangular style invite, consider the rectangular invite and you will save about $0.20 each on postage!

Table number tip: Avoid custom framing costs. It is much easier to find a rectangular frame in a standard size!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with several wedding planners over the years, but none have been so professional and easy to work with as Andrea from Andrea Griffin Weddings and Events! In addition to creating a monogram/logo for her website, I’ve had the pleasure of creating a menu card and several buffet signs for her stylized shoot. I can already tell Andrea will be an amazing wedding planner, and look forward to watching her new business grow!

Another DIY misconception: Printing Double Sided verses Single Sided is cheaper
It seems logical using one card and printing on both sides it would be less expensive, right? Wrong! In many cases it’s actually more cost effective to print on two cards single sided rather than one card double sided.

Printing is often calculated as a per-side charge and more often than not, double sided printing fees outweigh the cost of another card.

When printing, consider how your items will be displayed and determine if they really need to be printed on both sides.  If your table number cards or place cards will be only seen from one side, why pay more to have them printed on both sides? Invitation cards often can be consolidated to single-sided prints that will save you extra $$! Discuss all your options with your stationary designer and/or printer; they are there to help you.
